'Glass Man' in North West?

Hello all

Can anyone recommend an independent windscreen fitter in the North West (Manchester)?

The windscreen seal in my 1985 635CSi is leaking (common fault) so I want to replace just the seal - the windscreen itself is in perfectly good condition. I just need someone with the appropriate expertise to do the job and I'd rather use an independent than a national. (More likely to do a good job and it's good to support independent businesses).

Hope someone can help and many thanks in advance for any recommendations.

I've used a guy in Bury a few times , did the thing with a cord OK on a defender as well as fitting a couple of normal screens

I've lost his number but PMd him on another forum

I don't believe the claiming for glass doesn't affect your premium BS so pay for screens, none have been more that £120-130 on normal cars fitted

Provided the rubber has not split, or showing signs of deterioration, have you considered having *it* sealed rather than replacing it?

Many thanks for the thought - absolutely the best advice - but unfortunately, the seal is both split and has deteriorated very badly (all the flexibility's gone). I'm 99% sure the deterioration is the cause of the leak.

Spoke to Ray - he knows the 635 really well (from doing a lot of work on them years ago). He's doing the job for me over the next few days. Thanks for the recommendation.

Ray (the glass fitter) did a really good job on the car. Removed the screen and old seal (whilst very carefully preserving all the chrome trims) cleaned all the old sealant/crap off the screen surround & re-glued some loose trim. The new rubber seal was installed with lots of 21st-century sealant, the windscreen re-installed into the car and everything cleaned-up properly afterwards. Not bad on the money either - he charged £85 inclusive (for about an hour and a half's work, travel time to/from and materials). The windscreen seal itself was considerably more expensive than the fitting cost!

Happy to recommend him.
