could be £1 could be £5000. You'll need to give us a bit more info.
is it a Berlinetta or GTE would be a good start some idea of condition would also help.
A top notch GTE is probably worth £4-5K (mind you I haven't looked for a while)
I thought all the Exclusive models were the same spec as they were sold with all the top options from the previous versions to get rid of them in the last couple of years of production? Maybe I'm wrong though, it was thirty years ago and my old memory is fading.is it a Berlinetta or GTE would be a good start some idea of condition would also help.

Confused already Is an Exclusive a model on its own? So it could not be a Berlinetta or GTE!is it a Berlinetta or GTE would be a good start some idea of condition would also help.

As I said I have not looked at it yet but he used to drive it at weekends and it looked mint as it drove by so it would not be worth £1!

Manta Exclusve was a nice late model, hatch worth less than coupe need more details- £1k for a rotten wreck and £15k for a mint low mileage rust free Manta Gte exclusive.
If it had been a coupe I would have enquired about it earlier as a rally project. Hatch backs appeal to the classic collector but as I can not find one for sale I was hoping someone on here could help. I will take a look and post my findings. I do not want to rip her off but if it needs some work I do not want to be out of pocket. Apologies I meant £1K not £1.
the exclusives were probably all 2 litres (my memory isn't what it used to be)
Why don't you ask her what she wants for it. if she got a trader in I cant see him offering more than £500 or so as its an "old car" anything more than that would be a bonus for her?
My gut feeling would be to offer £1000 and see what she says.

The Exclusive should be a 1987-88 car, and should be equivalent to GT/E specification (2L, 5sp) with a few cosmetic extras.
Not enormously collectable at the minute, particularly in hatch form, but reasonably rare (so who knows for the future). Probably one of the nicer versions of the B. I'd be aiming at comparable GTE price, perhaps +5%/10%.

My mum bought one new in 88, as I recall, the Exclusives were 1.8 Hatch with carb and auto choke or 2.0ltr coupe with injection.
I think the 2.0 coupe's did have GTE badges but the 1.8 Hatchbacks didn't.
Correct. All had four headlamp conversions (as per the 400) coupes had a three piece rear spoiler similar looking to the 400 as well, option of dark wheels with polished edges or white on white cars, different trim, light/dark grey although some late GTE cars had the same, Coupes had re-located rear number plate (to the 400 style bumper) and an infill panel between the rear lights. All had exclusive badges on the boot lid.I think the 2.0 coupe's did have GTE badges but the 1.8 Hatchbacks didn't.

To all intents and purposes that is a brand new car. Absolutely stunning.I used to work on these and, as someone has already stated they were a far better car than the Capri; their direct Ford rival. They were very solid and beautifully trimmed inside. You could tune the 2 litre to be bloody quick, or fit a 2 litre turbo engine from a late Cavalier.
They are so rare now they are bound to appreciate soon.

Tricky situation OP - maybe you could just ask the lady what she wants for it?
Or if that isn't an option try to find a trader who deals in that sort of car to view it and give her an offer, then pay a bit more yourself if you think it is worth it.
And definitely find out if it is a 1.8 or a 2.0 GTE as the latter is going to be significantly more valuable (and more fun)!
I always quite liked these back in the day, but by then I had discovered 2.8 Injection Capris!
Good Mantas will always have some value, but for some reason fast Vauxhalls of that era are never worth anything like their fast Ford equivalents.
They were pretty good cars in the day, at least as good as the Fords.
Someone mentioned a Cavalier/Calibra Turbo transplant - I think a 16v Red-Top would have been pretty good in a Manta (a bit more analogue, like the car)!
Good luck anyway - hope you can get it bought!

Funnily enough the red top engine swap is a lot easier in the 1.8 as all the engine mounts, gearbox etc fit without any mods. It's a straight swap. A lot more difficult on the gte.Or if that isn't an option try to find a trader who deals in that sort of car to view it and give her an offer, then pay a bit more yourself if you think it is worth it.

Watch the German movie Manta Manta for inspiration. The only foreign language film I've ever watched without subtitles.
