Automobilia Auction Items
Discussion
I am having a sort out and am ready to part with some of my clutter, sorry I mean to say highly sought after memorobilia. Amongst this are some pieces of automobilia, including car mascots and rare badges. Google being my friend I've had a look at what similar and, in some cases, identical pieces are selling for.
I did get as far as sending some photographs to one of the big auction houses who have recently sold similar pieces and whilst I was happy enough with their guide valuations, I was a little bit concerned that they would only accept them as "no reserve" items. They were kind enough to point out that, even though they value the items in the high hundreds, it could mean me owing them money (due to the entry fee, catalogue fee, commission and VAT) if they knocked them down for a fiver, leaving me without the items and a bill.
I know I could try my luck with eBay, but I have had a few unpleasant transactions there in the past so would rather not. Has anyone experience of selling bits like this recently and know which Auction Houses allow small lots to have reserves?
