Doesn't surprise me now, since they aren't making any more shells or kits. As the advertiser says, if you want an XKSS your options are limited, very limited. A "real" FIA-papered replica can be had for about £450,000, a Lynx for £350,000 (that's the old Lynx since new ones can be bought today for £275,000) and there is one real car on the market at £10 million. Yet only a few years back these RAM cars were £45,000. I understand your angst though, since I am 5' 8" on a good day and even then it is quite a tight fit, especially for the left foot. A friend tried to get in mine and his legs were jammed either side of the wheel. He couldn't possibly have driven it. But wasn't there a thread a while back of someone wanting one?

ETA Found the thread and emailed him.

Hi Tony,

I even completely removed the seat on the D-Type I was interested in and still could not drive it.

I think surgery to shorten my legs is a bit drastic, so it will have to be a C-Type when the French authorities deem it to be suitable for registration over here!!!!

Interesting news on the replica front from the FFVA. I enquired about my Lynx and if I get a letter from Lynx confirming that the car was built in 1986 or earlier it can now have French plates. Cars over 30 years old are now permitted to be registered they told me. Now having built a C-type, you'll still need leg surgery. With over-centre pedals like a Porsche there is less space than in a D-type. I sold my Lynx long nose to a chap who was 6' 2" and CKL modified the pedal box so he could fit in.

Yes Tony, the FFVE are now considering 'our' cars provided that you can prove that the 'kit' was available and in production in 1986 or earlier. - The age of the donor vehicle (even over 30 years) does NOT count if the 'kit' was not available until after 86. - Of course, this will change on an annual rolling basis.

I now have a good friend who is an area co-ordinator for the FFVE and he now has registered the following cars as part of his own collection:
Moss Malvern
Westfield 7 (pre-lit)
Marlin
Gentry

A very good guy to know who is 'on our side'. - If you would like his details, please 'pm' me.

Good luck with the Lynx.

Lowdrag, I had a Lynx XKSS in the early '90s and the whole upper panel that the pedals were mounted to was adjustable fore and aft with flexy hydraulic pipes to the cylinders. I'm 6'2" and it was very comfortable with the pedals forward.

It would be a fairly simple task to modify one to do this.
