Product to clean a vinyl headlining

Hi,
Anyone used or recommend a product to use on a white vinyl headlining which has a few greasy thumbprints and 30 years of grime on it?.
It's not terribly filthy (although ask me after I've cleaned it! ) but the previous owner was a smoker, and it is a bit grubby.

It's not a porous headlining as you might see on some early fords, but ideally something which is not too liquid like a foam which is then wiped off would be ideal.

I would go for either careful use of a steam-cleaner - by which I mean a proper cleaner using steam, not the commonly mis-used name for a jetwash.

Alternatively, Furniture Clinic make a product called Leather Ultra Clean - this works equally well on vinyl surfaces and if used through a foaming bottle (which they also sell on their site I think) comes out as a mousse. If you put this directly onto a leather brush then you can work away to your heart's content without excessive 'drippage'.

The cheapo aerosol stuff labelled as Interior Valet is actually pretty good on vinyl, I think Decosol made a version .

I think a lot of what looks like dirt or grime is actually staining coming through from the original glued backing used to hold it in place. I know a few people who have the same on their cars and nothing seems to shift it.

If cleaning doesn't work you could try the old trick of carefully applying emulsion paint. Yes really, it does work. On vinyl only!

Very dilute solution of Fairy liquid and a nail brush.

Painted a vinyl headlining myself, vinyl silk gives a decent finish, be careful there aren't nicotine stains, these might show through.

This stuff everytime for me - I've used it on nappa leather seats, headlining, dashboards and leather door cards to remove greasy fingerprints, oil marks etc. really is superb stuff in my view - being poorboys it doesn't smell bad either

I find Armor All Dashboard Wipes - Matt, are very good at removing grime.

Cif / Cream Cleaner as above. Cheap and works V well.

I used some PALTECH industrial abrasive antibacterial wipes from ACE Industrial supplies (from work) on vinyl upholstery and the abrasive element within the blue/white paper cloth helped a lot. Smells lemony.
