BMW E30- east mids body/paint
Discussion
there, new to the forum (and to e30s)!
I've had my e30 1986 325i for 3 months. Love the car. No corrosion in wheel arches, scuttle, boot etc. Couldn't pull carpets up, but it looked OK. But... found flaking paint/corrosion under a loose nearside trim strip near the sill, (about 6 inches) so I need to get that bit done.
Also, my paint is dull, faded, and looks like someone badly cut it. It's supposed to be zinnobar red, but it has had a dodgy respray at some point so i don't know if/where it's still single stage paint. It looks like whoever did it has put no clear coat.
Also MOT due soon and my car has corroded brake pipes as advisory, so add that to the list!
Trouble is, I don't know anyone with a classic, let alone an e30 BMW. Any requests for mechanic/body recommendations are "my mate" or "after I had a smash last year, they patched my car up.." Insurance, in, out job.
I'm looking for someone who is gonna take care over my car and who knows these. Does anyone here know anyone good at a reasonable price, preferably in Leicester, maybe Derby/Notts?
Also, what can be done with faded, matte, oxidised paint?
Thanks guys!

I don't know how much your budget is but I've had two cars restored here:

Hi OP,
I can't help with a bodyshop in your area sorry - I'm sure others can on here.
I used to own an '86 325i, Schwartz black, 2 door, manual. It's still owned by a friend, but I haven't seen another chrome bumpered 2 door 325i on the road for maybe ten years - is yours a 2 door?
They are great cars but do seem to rust everywhere (though not to the level of a 3.0CSi/L or 2002). Mine was going on the outer sills, rear panel, rear arch lips, front wings and front panel before it was saved by my friend (who owned it before I did as well).

Get yourself on here:

It can be a bit off the wall at times but there are plenty of knowledgeable people across the country. The site also has a really good Wiki covering just about every aspect of the cars.
