A friend of mine recently pointed me in the direction of this Mk1 Escort 1300 GT. Originally owned by a former RAF officer who was stationed in Cyprus, the car has lived there ever since and, according to its current owner, has covered just over 10,000 miles from new.

‘This is the only one of this year/model that I know of in Cyprus and it always gets masses of attention wherever I go’ he said. When quizzed on whether or not Bones would part with the car he added ‘It could be for sale but the offer would have to be very strong’.
How much do we think its worth, whilst its only a "humble" 1300GT and not a BDA or historic rally car, I'm sure its got a fair value. I'm guessing £22,000 (UK pounds).
There's probably more value in "ringing" it into a previously unknown/undiscovered barnfind, an unwelded, unpainted BDA or RS2000 must be worth upwards of £40,000
Edit to add:
Shouldn't the GT have Mexico/RS front wings?

Yes it should, unless this was some odd export version.

My first car was a 1300XL, looked v similar, especially once I'd replaced the wings and fitted quarter bumpers :-)

I thought the GT's didn't have the flared AVO wings, as they were all BB48 based bodyshell's. Although this maybe an export spec shell, which IIRC were then BB49 shell's, but without the flared front wings??

The later 1300 Sport did though IIRC...???

Would need to dig the books out though to be sure about the GT.

Original early GT's are pretty rare in themselves now, so with a rust free shell, and low mileage, probably, £15k+, but it's true value is as you say related to it's 'conversion' into a Twin Cam or RS1600 FIA Historic rally car, so......it's value is as much as someone with deep pockets is prepared to pay for it.....and you have to have deep pockets to build FIA Historic rally cars.

Back in the day I remember the Escort Sport being marketed as having flared arches, so I guess that implies the GT didn't have them.

I think you're right.

The 1300GT had 12" wheels and the standard front wings. The later 1300 Sport had 13" wheels and the flared 'AVO' arches.

The car pictured would appear to have 13" wheels with the smaller arches - not a combination ever marketed in the UK, but 13" wheels were a popular upgrade with 'boy-racers', 'customisers' etc. back in the day.

My mistake, GT, Sport. Confusing.

CORRECT SIR

The GT was the original, the Sport superseded it and had the AVO arches.
What I can't remember is, did the GT have the 6 clock dash or just the later Sport which replaced the GT

GT deffo had 6 clock dash, early Sport's didn't as they had a aux tach in a seperate mount on dash. Later Sports got the 6 dial dash........IIRC..... as it's been a long time laugh

My 3rd car owned was a 1300 Sport, deffo had the big front arches ,which the GT did not have.

It was a later M reg car with the 6 clock dash.

Bought it in 1982.....VPD 654M.....metallic green.

Most GT's had the chrome trim around the side windows. All except the very early ones - these also have the Twin Cam type rear axle with the anti tramp bars used on the AVO stuff but by late 1968 these were deleted. All GT's have standard wings, square headlights and the six clock dash. What a nice old thing. £20'000 upwards if it's mint. Pity about the wheels and nasty steering wheel.

The Sport didn't replace the GT - the GT continued until 1974 but mainly (only?) as a four door. I'm not sure you could buy a two door GT after 1972. The Sport had the 13 inch wheels as well as a lower rear axle ratio, 4.1:1 iirc. GT's had plusher XL style trim.

Another feature of the earliest models is the protruding chrome fuel filler cap nerd. It wasn't long before this was changed to a much neater flush fitting cap in body colour.

My '69 Twink had the protruding filler cap.
