Time has come to say goodbye to my vintage car life and welcome in the world of classic car motoring. To this end I am looking at a seemingly very original Volvo 123gt of 1968 vintage. Car would appear to be 'as factory' specification but has had the benifit of a recent respray in original colour.
Any comments and advise gratefully received.

Excellent cars and you can't go too far wrong with one (they are a lot more expensive than 'normal' 2 door Amazons, but you do have the rarity value on your side).
Be careful though: there are quite a few fakes out there, so check very carefully that you're buying a genuine 123gt and not paying an extra premium of a few grand for a 133 with the correct bits bolted on.
Have you got a link to the car add, or were you after some genreal advice about them?
I'd be happy to give you a few pointers, and the Volvo owners club forum is full of helpful people.

The car I am looking at I am considering as p/x for my Vauxhall 20/60 currently on EBay. One problem is values, I was offered £18880 for my Vauxhall and deposit was taken. However the deal failed, my fault, at at last fence. But this indicates my price is realistic. The 123gt seems a little expensive but I have done research and found that it was for sale at £16k a few months back then dropped to 15k failing to sell. The 123gt owner has offered me £1500 + the car in exchange for my Vauxhall Obviously this is my decision to accept or reject, but my problem is defining true value of the 123gt and its desirability should I need to resell at a later date. The car is suited to my need and I like the style and so on , it's purely this value thing. Assuming £18k for mine means his car is £16500. The current owner comes across as honest in my estimation and the car purports a strong authentic history with 'teams of paperwork'

Found an old ad' from July of this year on uk.tixuz.com. I googled the model and make of car and went onto images, then clicked onto the car image. It is reg plate PYV 345F finished in dark green.

Almost certainly the car I am considering, I am no expert on this particular make or model but understand that the 123gt is top of the Volvo 120 series tree. There is some value in the convenience of the part exchange too. Even if you are paying / loosing, say £1000, you wouldn't have to travel around the country too many times to see too many other Amazons, then collect it etc before that £1000 had been eaten up.

As a total 'outsider' I don't think this is a very fair 'deal' - I'm not a veteran/vintage enthusiast but the selling price for your car seems reasonable - IMHO the price for to Volvo irrespective of condition just seems too far to high for what is a effectively a special version of what was a 'cooking' family car - just my opinon!
Thank you for continued input, for better or worse I have now done the deal with more cash agreed than original offer. I reasonably satisfied with the deal, although it's always nice to sell for a higher price but realistically the vintage car market is very niche.
As for the Volvo, a few minor jobs to attend to over winter but nothing untoward. Proberly paid £1500 more than I wanted to. The big advantage is the availability of virtually all parts for the car, mechanical and body. Also we have two classic Volvo specialists just down the road to where we live.
The body she'll was stripped down, glass out and doors off down to bare metal and all corrosion properly dealt with before good respray. That should be good for at least next fifteen years!
First classic car I have owned all the others have been modern or vintage. See how I get on with the classic and either keep it or spell it after a years motoring in it.

Halogen headlights... less than 50 quid, you can see where you are going at night (I fitted Osram Nightbreakers in mine rather than the Ring bulbs supplied - they're in the boot for emergencies) and they take about 20 minutes to swap over.
The ones you want are product number B1212963C.

You won't find anyone who has a bad word to say about Simon (the bloke who runs Brookhouse Volvo). Very helpful chap and he's helped me out a lot over the years with advice and hard to find parts.
