I think there may already be a few of these type of things already being used in Historic racing.

That's quite clever: the only drawback being that you are injecting into the start of the inlet manifold and not the port and that could take the edge of the benefit, particularly at the front of the engine if the manifold is air cooling at speed.

I can understand if it was modern electronic system styled to look like an old mechanical inj system like a Lucas or TJ for example (like Hilborn have done) but not like a set of fake DCOE's...

I think the point is that you can convert a carburettor car to something like Megasquirt and get potentially improved running, but still have the engine bay looking original to the casual eye that doesn't notice where it says "Jenvey" on the top cover.

I thought I'd read of something similar in the US based on SU or Stromberg carbs, which might be more appropriate, especially for those of us where a DCOE/DHLA inlet manifold is now quite expensive.

Precisely, I've heard of tuners converting existing carbs to a similar setup but these look to be a nice off-the-shelf solution
