No spark from electronic distributor?

Hello, just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.
I have a series 2 xj 4.2 that has had the original distributor with points changed to an electronic version.
My poor car has sat idle for a year due to building work on my home and has been left outside because of it.
Basically today, with a charged battery she turned over fine and fired but a bit lumpy running on 5. My carbs have a manual choke but they haven't been set properly since the new engine. Anyway it fired run for a couple of mins with a bit of throttle then stalled. Turned over again with a couple of splutters and nothing.
The carb floats are full so fuel is getting in. I've cleaned the plugs as they were sooty, the coil was pushing a spark but no spark from the distributor to the plug leads?
Any ideas?

Is the little springy "button" in top of the distributor still springy or is it stuck and not contacting the rotor?
I'm certain it was still sprung but I will double check. It's seems so strange as it all fired up, stalled, then nothing after while I cranked the engine over. I was wondering if there's a part in the distributor that has broke. I'll have another look in the morning as I'm at work now
It's not clear from the original post, but I assume there's no spark at the spark plug, so the following may not be relevant! But for what it's worth, I wouldn't assume that just because there's petrol in the carbs that the petrol is getting through... If the car has sat for a year it's possible that the petrol has 'jellied' and clogged the jets - that might explain why it started initially but then stopped - I had a similar situation at the start of this year after storage over the winter - cleaned the carb and all was good...

That's a fair point, didn't think of that re carbs. I checked all 3 float chambers and they were full but I only removed one dashpot to check for fuel. Thank you for the info
Well the spark is back, corroded connection. So cleaned those up and nice fat spark on the plugs now .........still not firing at all. Remove another dashpot, fuel is there. Removed the other 2 and same. I removed the float covers and turned the ignition on and the pump is working but noticed no fuel smell? My old jag had gone eco it seems and is trying to burn water?.....
Job for the weekend is drain the tanks and carbs then purb the fuel lines with fresh petrol. Once freshly fuelled fingers crossed she will fire into life again
