Help me identify an old police car

I'm writing a new book and making reference to my old 1970's copy of Roadcraft. I'm just struggling to confirm my suspicions about the car being driven by the two serious-looking Z-Cars coppers on the front cover. I suspect very strongly that it's a Triumph 2000, but I'm not 100% sure.

I am 100% certain that it is a MK 2 Triumph 2.5 pi (pre the 1974 facelift that changed the dials) - so it is somewhere between 1970 and 1974.
The Triumph 2000 never had a rev counter nor minor instruments in separate gauges. It had a single large dial to deal with fuel, temp and volts. The picture of the 2000 dash earlier in this thread is bastardised using a pi dash although a pi would have had a speedo reading to 140mph (2000 to 120 mph) and the dial rings would have been black not chrome.
Pre the 1974 facelift, the range was just the 2000 and the 2.5 pi. Post the 1974 facelift the 2500 TC was introduced which had essentially a 2000 poverty-spec dashboard but with a pi-style three spoke steering wheel. The pi was then dropped for the S which looked like a pi with alloys but had 30 bhp less under the bonnet.

Agree re early Mk2 2.5Pi, and an auto at that. Thread reminded me I have that copy of Roadcraft (printed '77), and an even earlier one with an S Type Jag on the cover.
I'd always assumed the car was a 2.5Pi , but studying it closely revealed what appears to be a choke knob (right hand of the 3 in front of gear selector), however, it would seem that the Pi had a choke. You learn something every day.
Not sure how the new-found knowledge will benefit me, though
