Morris Ital floorpan

I've never seen the underside of an Ital this clearly before.

All the ones I had were covered in rust underneath or had patches welded over the rust.
Throwing them on the railway tracks when new was probay a good way to get rid of them - save any poor sod from owning one!

It had velour seats and a clock as standard.

Dad worked for BL so we got a new one every six months. We had every colour except black, our Itals were always 1.7 estates. They were not fast! We also had Princesses, Rover SD1's, and MGB and Montego's including a MG Montego Turbo.

Ha. Dad was on the management car scheme, but he certainly is aware of a Rover SD1 that was built by the factory that didn't show up on the records. The fraudster was caught when he divorced his wife and his ex mother in law grassed on him

I was just about to post the same

I used to run a 1.7HL and then a 1.7SLX as a demonstrator (just as they were phased out). I am generally an Austin Rover Group fanboy, but these things (BL carry overs) really were crap. Replaced by the Montego, it was as if several generations had been skipped at once, going from worst in class to arguably one of the best.

Parents continue their own pain, by driving Peugeots's these days. Shocking considering my dad built his own "Special" when he was 20 and when I was too young to drive he had a Humber Hawk and a Super Snipe. I can still recall cruising down the M1 with Mum driving and an indicated 100mph on the speedo of the Hawk

I remember that happening. Quite a few of those ended up on the track.

The most interesting thing in the photo is the Class 85 though, great machine.

Can't see how, the changes from Marina to Ital were minimal.

Interior was better, seats better, 1.7 engine was better than the 1.8 in the marina. Headlights were better, it had a clock as standard, even had door mirrors on both sides

Most of those are specification differences, which could easily have been applied to a later, higher spec. Marina.

Of course, it could, but it wasn't hence Ital was a nicer car. But no mistake, Ital was just a facelift
