Remember when the Motor Show was a big event? Usually a special programme on TV, special souvenir editions of car magazines?

I could watch those all day... keep following the links to other clips, there are some real old gems on there!

I went to every Earls Court show with my Dad and Uncle from '73 until it moved to the NEC in '78, we always came home with armfuls of brochures. Stand out memories are seeing Princess Anne and Mark Phillips wandering around in '73, Dave Prowse dressed as the green cross code man standing next to the 007 Lotus Esprit, and begging my Dad to by a TR7 at the NEC.

Must resist - at least until I've done some work this afternoon. I used to be taken to the Earl's Court Motor Show by my dad and grandad. Sometimes we'd go on to The Dairy Show at Olympia where we'd scoff ourselves stupid on cheese, ham and anything else on offer - three generations on a boys' day out. Happy days...

The Pirahna? never heard of one, and why was there an E Type steering wheel on the thing; what was all that about?.

I was an apprentice mechanic from 1963-68.Every year we were given a day off and a free ticket to The Motor Show.

It was a Bertone concept car based on an E-Type, and inspiration for the Espada.

My dad picked me up from school in 1967 on his motorbike (no helmet required!) and took me to Wimbledon then we got the tube to Earls Court.

Fantastic experience, especially as he took me every year after that!

I was a de Havilland apprentice in the late 1950s and we had to bunk off early from college to get to the Motor Show. We had learned that we could see most of the interesting cars without paying for admission by visiting the undercroft car park. In those days the exhibiting manufacturers had a fleet of demonstrators in that car park which serious punters could drive round the neighbouring streets. Imagine trying to do that in the Earls Court area even 20 years later, never mind nowadays!
By 1968 I'd more or less lost interest in the Show and probably didn't go to it more than one year in five - but by then I did pay for a ticket.
