Classic breakdown cover in Europe

Hi

We are taking our 1981 air cooled T25 camper over to France this year for about ten days.

What is the best/ cheapest way of getting breakdown cover whilst there?

(Our van has not let us down in 5 years and is in very good mechanical condition. We are only travelling round Normandy, so not going too far - but with two young kids and a wife I need some security )

For ten days, so close to the channel, I wouldn't bother... Most of the Euro policies won't cover campers and/or older vehicles. If you do find anybody, let me know.

We used ADAC for our later T25, annual policy, but they had a sulk at me for daring to call them three times in four years. If they'll cover you, then no-brainer.

Any use - it's annual, so not the cheapest, but cheaper than trying to get a broken van home yourself.

Gawd, if only they did personal cover - they'd have my business like a shot.

I'll be looking at them to cover our camper this year. It's a 2002, which means many traditional companies won't cover it - even though it's a Toyota and barely run-in.

Carole Nash and other brokers include overseas breakdown cover with their classic car insurance, this seems the cheapest way to get cover these days. When I last looked this was by far my best option.

That does look good, thank you - but I reckon I can get it a little cheaper from them under a classic over 20 years old policy here

It is a little misleading as when you select classics it mentions campervans specifically and then further under the FAQs it just mentions vans???

I will give them a call, me thinks....

Classicline also include it as standard in their policies.

I'm with RH and the inclusion of UK and European breakdown cover makes what isn't an expensive insurance premium anyway a very good deal.

I have had cause to use it too, and the service was brilliant.

For anywhere further than Normandy I can highly recommend Asda European Breakdown cover's annual policy (think it's a basically a Britannia policy). Had a breakdown in Norway (in an old car, mysterious misfire of electrical origin + clutch slave simultaneously giving up the ghost), and car was promptly towed back to the UK and my return paid too, and their guys dealing with it were helpful in the extreme. Shudder to think of the cost without cover.

FOOTMAN JAMES classic car breakdown insurance, alternative?

I am currently insured with the above company for my 4 Mercedes classics, on phoning up today to renew after receiving a reminder letter they now tell me its being discontinued!

They were very competitive at only £68 and offered EU wide cover, anyone else the forum can recommend?

Noting the above last post for ASDA, double the price at £134, assume it just covers a single vehicle.
