Dolly, Jolly or Moke?

Seeing as we are in the midst of a clear blue, hot weekend I find myself once again pondering what would be the best classicsilly summer car that can be kept in a shed and be fun to potter around the local countryside in a few times a year.

Having had minis when younger the Moke is always on the radar. It's cheap and very easy to fix and keep running. However, being married to an Italian the Jolly is the best looking of this type of this car and very appealing. And then there is the 2CV Dolly which appeals to my screaming Liberal side while being a shocking affront to my other side, the facist dictator.

What about the Citroen mehari looks like it would be relatively easy to maintain.

How numerous are Jollys in UK ?

Can't be many for sale,not that Mokes are exactly common either.

You'd pretty much be forced to fly to Italy, buy one and drive it back via some exceedingly expensive country hotels.

They are properly horrible on the road though. Plus, doubt it would achieve clearance from the Home Office.

Possibly. I'm in the one where all assets have been hugely inflated by excess cheap debt and printed money and where the use of the word 'cheap' is only relevant in relative means.

If you are in a universe that isn't a debt fuelled, consumer driven clustrefk then I'd be really, really grateful if you could post up some directions.

I have done 3500 ms in mine [ 59 Hotchkiss ] in under 2 years, with "home Office" on board, Kids, Grand kids, friends etc, every one loves it. It is a bit agricultural I grant you, but huge fun to potter around in, certainly not horrible.

I drive one around an estate outside of Paris many years ago and my residual memory is that it was immense fun with mates (and huge amounts of alcohol!!!) but it wouldn't work for me back here with my family.

Moke all the way. Memories of driving one, that may or may not have been registered to the diplomatic service , around Mahe, Seychelles back in the day means it has to be that. Never quite worked out how I'd make use of one over here but yes days like these are how.
