Jaguar 240 clutch - How much!

On a well known Jaguar spares company website they list the complete clutch kit for a Jaguar 240 at £1,400 incl VAT. Apparently the 240 used a smaller 8" or 8.5" clutch rather than the usual 9"(?) of larger engine Jaguar MK2's and these smaller clutches are like hens teeth.
Just wondering if anyone knows why this is? Surely that clutch type was used on some other car of that era? Same set up was used in the rare manual OD Daimler V8 250 too. I guess the 240 with a manual gearbox was a rare choice back in the day and the demand is almost non existent, hence the price.

Surely you just switch to the fly wheel of the full sized engine and they there should be no problem using the clutch.
I can't believe there's a shortage of XK flywheels.

The Daimler V8 250 saloon also uses the 8.5" clutch in the equally rare manual OD models. Not sure if the Jag flywheel will work on the Daimler.
I have an SP250 fitted with the Daimler V8 saloon engine and manual OD gearbox. So far the clutch is OK, but maybe I'd have to look at getting the Daimler flywheel modified to fit the Jaguar 9" clutch......
Anyway, I was just curious if anyone had some historical knowledge on the smaller clutch setup.

My clutch catalogues don't really list those Jaguar / Daimler numbers - they're old catalogues, but possibly not old enough. There are quite a few 8.5" diameter clutch plates, though, but it all depends on the centre size and the number of splines. For example there's an 8.5" plate for some Ford and Reliant vehicles, with 1" x 23 spline centre, and there's another with 7/8" x 22 splines. If you could measure the centre I'd happily look for anything that matches, but I imagine it'll have been checked before.

Don't forget there are companies that will re-line your clutch plate, which can help if all else fails.
