I'm sure 77 is still around but don't know for certain. I have found this one picture which looks like it could be 77 but the number plate is only partially visible.
.
A few years ago I did a trawl through the DVLA database of all the DAC registered cars for the Sunbeam Lotus Owners Club to try and determine how many were still around but unfortunately cannot access the results as the forum has been down for quite a few months now.
Might be worth asking on the SLOC Facebook page instead.

Update from mike today he lived in skipton North Yorkshire when he bought the car,he kept it for around 4 years before selling it to a young guy in skipton (£4000) he modified it and let mike have ago in it,then at some point it had a problem and set fire,as far as mike knows it then went south but he never heard of it again..
Again many thanks for information

Omg...in 1977 I worked in the parts dept of a Vauxhall and talbot dealer we had new lotus sunbeams and chevette 2300s I was lucky enough to buy a hillman hunter gals the webers started to leak fuel onto the exh manifold, guess what it set alight but no damage
Sunbeam Alpines had a ridiculous carb set up that led to them leaking all over the manifolds, absolutely nuts (think it was Solex carbs). I googled it and found a few fires caused by it. wsn03 said:
I saw one of these go on fire in Coventry in 1993. Fuel leak, by the time energency services got to it it was destroyed
My car caught fire due to a fuel leak in around 2004.The damage was confined mainly to the engine bay but the dash and loom also needed replacing. The rest survived pretty much intact but still required a full rebuild.

The last picture is of the car now.
That's a top recovery, nice work! The one I saw burning out had nothing left to rebuild.Unfortunately this wasn't an under the bonnet fire, it was fuel line under the car itself. The kid had clearly just finished the car and was taking 3 people out in it, what a cr@p ending to all that work - looked stunning before the fire.

Yes my hunter had nothing between the carbs and exhaust so I made an alloy samwich plate for mine(wish I still had it never seen one in years)
It made no sense, I read on another forum that some Alpine's had the carb overflow actually aimed at the exhaust manifold - yes seriously!! I thought there was something missing on my cousin's Alpine, I was shocked to see fuel leaking straight onto the manifold. I was going to make a plate for it myself, but he decided after a very short spell of owning it that the car wasn't for him.
