Carbon build up, is what it is..
Driving regularly and at a fair lick for extended distances will keep things running well and provide more enjoyment.
We used to have such fun with Redex.
One time my mate bought an ex wedding/funeral car, a 1970 Ford Zodiac Executive Mk 4. Never been more than 30mph in its life, it was down on power although in minted condition.
Compression was low, so one day at work, we pulled the plugs in the morning, and poured Redex into the cylinders. Late afternoon, we put the plugs back in and after a fair bit of cranking, it fired back up. My mate kept it revving as I poured more Redex down the carb until a security guy appeared shouting at us for the thick black reek coming out of the exhaust.
We drove off, down the coast road (SW Scotland) in 2nd and 3rd at a fair speed and revs and as I looked out the back, I could see red hot sparks and bits of glowing carbon bouncing down the road out of the exhaust. After about an hour of this, the reek subsided and the car began to pull well like the low mileage Essex motor it was. More Redex and a high revving trip back home and that car was running as sweet as nut.
We gave it a full service and a tank of 5 star and went on our holiday to Blackpool where it was the ultimate bird puller with its shiny black paint and bench seats.. Good days..
