Hi.

No, I'm afraid not. It's in it's own unmarked box which came with a few other unconnected bits. It would appear to have been refurbished and not used since.

It looks very much like the one that was fitted with a matching style speedometer to my Dad's 1972 Austin 1300GT back in the day.

British cars, 1970s/80s. Triumph looking, that particular one.

Though I suspect it might be earlier, positive earth was fairly uncommon.

"British Jaeger" and "Smiths" are essentially the same instrument.

This one looks like it has British written very small above the Jaeger script.

Electronic rev counters came in at the beginning of the 60s from memory and positive earth dates it to early sixties too. Many instruments were common and only the face design could be the clue. Looks Triumph to me but then I'm no expert. But I do know that Moggies didn't have a rev counter!

I had an MG 1300 back in the 70's.

It's been along time, but that reminds me of the rev counter in that car

Though I don't remember it being positive earth...

I would say it was an aftermarket accessory.
Original equipment would not need to have the 4-cyl positive earth message on its dial and the red mark at 6,000 looks like a moveable "bug" where OE would have a permanent red line.
You can see that it does say British Jaeger and, as was said above, that was a Smiths trademark by the time electronic tachometers came in,

They were +ve Earth. Mate fitted a dash in his Clubman from one.

At first glance it reminded me of the rev counter in my Mum's Triumph Spitfire (MK1) that she had about 45 years ago.

I could however be wrong!
