I was browsing through a special magazine (WHSmith publication) I have lying around about the 60s TV series Heartbeat. In it there is a page about the cars in the series, and one photo shows the character Vernon Scripps (played by the late Geoffrey Hughes) sat inside a white Jaguar SS100 (reg no. BOB 460) beside the Aidensfield garage. Having had quite abit of knowledge about the series since it began I thought it was odd that I don't ever recall seeing this particular car in any episode. I've searched on imcdb but can't find anything.

I know the character had a few prestige motors due to him coming into money (think one was a Bentley), but I don't recall him driving or owning a Jaguar SS100. Anyone know which episode this car was featured in?

I can't add any information regarding the car's appearance in Heartbeat, but BOB460 is actually a rare (pre-Jaguar) SS90.
Only 23 were built in 1935 before it was upgraded to become the SS Jaguar 100.

Edited to add:
Heartbeat Series 13 - Episode 23 "Muck and Brass"
Merton faces a race against time to stop a saboteur when Aidensfield hosts a prestigious car hill-climb. Meanwhile, Bernie finds an old car in a cowshed and decides to renovate it, giving Vernon his chance to scoop the winnings in the event. Rural police drama, starring Duncan Bell, Peter Benson and Geoffrey Hughes.

It's a green car that has been badly (temporarily) over painted in white. The headlamps and their posts have been removed and it has an SS Jaguar radiator badge, rather than the correct SS version.

Thanks for thatsmile. That's the photo that's in the magazine I have. It maybe the episode Muck and Brass that the car is in, though I can't recall much about the episode; there are some episodes involving a car rally which feature some interesting motors, such as the brief glimpse of Jaguar C-Type (obviously a replica). Will check it out to see if the car is shown in it. I thought there was something odd about it in that photo, but couldn't put my finger on it.

It's a replica, based on an XK150 3.4-litre.

Just watched the episode and it does indeed show a Jaguar SS which Vernon discovers in a barn covered in dust.

Talking about the C-Type replica, but in the episode I watched there is a C-Type taking part in the rally, but it's a green and the one in the above screenshot appears to be black. They seem to be able to find people who happen to own these cars. As realism goes, I find it quite unlikely that back in the 60s a real Jaguar C-Type (or even a rarer Jag SS) would be taking part in a small North Yorkshire village rally.
