Goodwood Revival BUY 1 and get 2

Just been watching the St Marys Cup 2 race . Why is there two BUY1 Jaguars..? The red safety car has the reg and one of the competitors has the same registration.

I posted this on the wrong thread and No Ideas kindly pointed me this way. He mentioned there was two E types in the paddock with the CUT 7 reg.

I realise they are historic numbers and have been on multiple cars nut surely only one at a time? If the clones/evocations/ replicas have the same number are they just off road show cars?

I am sure someone with more knowledge will answer but I assume they are just show plates depicting the cars period registration. BUY 1 was owed by Coomes Garage and put on the racing Jaguar in its racing days however it is normally legally on a new BMW.

Yes and no. Dick Protheroe had 3 E-types registered as CUT7; obviously only one of them is currently registered as CUT7 but if you are racing one of the others historically it seems more correct for it to have a 'show plate' with its period reg no.

If you look, one is a Mk1 owned by Tony Williams (his son is the driver who some of us call "Mr Sideways"). The other car is a Mk 2 that wore the plate later on. John Coombes had BUY 1 and BUY 12 in the day, and they passed to the now BMW dealership with the sale.

I think I understand. So all the cars originally had the relevant registrations and are not replicas, and just wear them for show to demonstrate their provenence. It wouldn't be like me putting 5 VC on my TR4, just on the driveway of course, because it never had that plate originally.

I think I have a picture of CUT7 next to CUT7 in the paddock... I thought they never appeared together.

Thought I had one somewhere... sure I read an item by lowdrag that said there was an agreement that the two never appear together?
