1982 Golf C

Long story short brought one today... But have never seen another mk1 Golf C, before anyone know if it's a rare model or if I have just missed them...

I learned to drive on one. But it was a 1981 model, not an '82.

Not really rare, that will be a large rear lamp model with the plastic wrap around bumpers golf c and gl were the two trim levels available the c took over from the earlier l and is the base spec model probably a 1.1 or 1.3 small block with a 4 speed manual or 3 speed auto

1982 Golf C - 36 taxed, 109 SORNed. Not exactly scarce for precise-year-precise-spec 35yo car.

Looks in good order - these should by rights have rusted to buggery by now. Yours is Gambia Red I think - and needs a good t-cut and wax - they used to go milky literally as you watched them.

The rear wiper should park vertically by the way, and for proper authenticity loose the non period alloys (they're from the small taillight GTi or Scirocco) and get a set of steelies with centre caps (not hubcaps) like this:

Rare colour for a golf c,good find!, agree with above really needs to go back to original, I had a 1.1 golf n think it was an 81 , brilliant little thing

Booted version of that was the Jetta C. Same 4-speed 'box, but 1272cc engine.

I think the 'C'-spec cars were all 3-door as well. (Which means that my memory was wrong and I learned to drive on a 'CL'-spec car as it was a 5-door and I think a 1300 as well). They were however lovely little things with a sweet gearchange and an enthusiastic engine and lovely perky (if wallowy) handling. I moved on to a 1.8 Mk1 GTI (not GTi) which was remarkably similar in a lot of ways.

I had a C golf diesel as a first cat and it was 5 door.

That 1.1 engine was pretty good for its size. It was smooth and it had a very even spread of torque. Mate of mine had a '78 base model. It was I think nominally the same horsepower as my dad's 1.5 LD diesel, but it was significantly quicker and more fun.

I had a P reg 1.1 Golf L as my first car in Lofoten green with orange cloth seats. The engine was quite nice I remember. When it wasn't choking on the rust flakes from the filler pipe.
