They still appear to have the car for sale.

Whilst I have no idea if they have bought it, or it is SOR, but if they own it, how long do we think they can afford to sit on it until it becomes a issue for them ?

It is unlikely to depreciate, but is still a lot of money tied up.

Thanks

Doubtless it is SOR. If not it is an appreciating asset, as long as the finance cost is less than the increase in value there is no reason to hurry a sale.

Extremely limited market for these cars.

I'd imagine having a 250 in stock does yourself no harm when claiming to be the worlds premier classic Ferrari dealer. It's a massive coup.

He's one of the few car dealers who could probably afford to own the car and sit on it.

Personally I think is asking way too much for that car at £55 million. The market is just not willing to contemplate that price at the moment. he has been taking the car to avents around the world but has still not had a serious offer near the asking price.

Yes he has sold a number of GTO's in the past but I think he has gone too far this time

I presume because it has not sold yet?

First, one has to be clear that in this case you don't buy a car, but are invest in an appreciating (hopefully) asset.
And £55 million is such a huge capital to spend on one single asset.

I saw it in the flesh in Dubai and to be frank I didn't get 55m usd excited...in fact I get far more exciting by a 2.5m usd Ferrari 275 or Merc Gullwing.

It seems like the car has gone stale. there are probably 50 buyers in the world for this car and who won't blink at spending 55m but it either happens or doesn't.

This is why such cars are usually privately traded or auctioned.

I think it's actually 55 million DOLLARS ( about £43m ) not that it makes a lot of difference to me !

A friend of mine owned it in the 70's. He told me he paid $12,500 for it and thought he'd done well when he sold it some years later for around $17,000 ! - he also owned two other GTO's as well a few years later !

Not many people can say they once owned a GTO!

Marcel Massini documents the history of the car:

It seems that John Collins actually owns it - bought it from Bernie Carl in late 2016 (according to various sources who know these things...)

Interestingly during the week I saw a 250 GTO shell and engine, yet another 330 being transformed. But I also am rather proud to have seen two Jaguar prototypes during the week the first E-type E1A and the second E2A.

I didn't think E1A existed anymore. What's the story, Lowdrag?

Sorry dear boy, that's all I can say at the moment. Everything is totally under wraps until the car is finally finished in a couple of years time. But she is coming along and I learned a lot I never knew existed.

I assure you that there is no funny business here. This involves the parts of the car found in a scrap yard twenty years back and the car will be very authentic. I spent one hour discussing it.
