Not to sure how you would title this really
I've got a Golf mk1 GTI that has sat in a garage for about 15 years, every year I roll it out and think "I must get this back on the road" and then promptly roll it back in and forget about it.
A couple of years ago I purchased a 62 Austin Healey Sprite and bar from spending money on useless spares from e-bay again have done nothing with it. In fact the only classic I own that I actually use is a little 68 Austin 1100.
Are other people the same and have cars stashed away for years or am I just a lazy?
I know time gets away from you but my dad passed away last year and it's started to make myself think that I should be sorting out my life

I bought an almost mint low mileage Mk1 Mr2 early last year, then promptly moved 335 miles away to somewhere with less garage space. The result being that it now resides in my mates parents garage, and has done since June last year. I'm in the process of altering my garage to allow it to take 3 cars, but it's a slow process.
I have an Eg6 civic that was the love of my life for about 2 years. I stripped it down for respray and I got it back from the bodyshop a year ago (just over!) and Ive barely done anything with it since.
all be it i have taken up a new hobby so this car is surplus to those requirements. but i do want to get it finished. its turned into a very long project... So no! I don't think you're being lazy. Its just one of those things + Mk1 golfs are only going up in value so no reason to rush anything

Since 1992 it has covered rather less than 1000 miles; invariably to and from the MOT station or to various specialists to re-commission it so that it can sit effectively unused for another 5 years

This I've had for around the same time, 28,000 miles, tax disc says 2012 but I'm sure I might have run it for a week or something haha
This I bought new, has had some Mot's since 2009, but stored in a barn for around 5 years prior, and at home since
This I bought in 2009, down the side of the house at the moment, did about 11k since bought, but not used the last couple of years, had company car.
I wouldn't let them go for silly offers, so I'll have them for quite a while and really don't care at the moment. So many time wasting idiots trying to get a cheap car, probably to flip at my expense I guess. Mike Brewer to blame haha wheeler stealers.

It's basically just a form of hoarding. I recognise the signs: you don't feel inclined to do much if anything with the car(s), but equally you don't want anyone else to have them either!
A bit like that fella who has a deconsecrated church stuffed full of old Citroens that are never likely to see the road again during his lifetime....

Why don't I sell the Lancia - after all, it would be a great starter classic for someone and, being quite rare now, there will be a Lancia-snogger positively spilling their seed over the opportunity to tick a Beta Spyder off their bucket list - particularly a genuine 2 owner car with a fully documented service history from new.
Far from being a dog-in-the-manger, it's because of the memories that are invested in the car. I don't open the barn door and see a nice, original Lancia Beta Spyder, I see that amazing week-end on the Isle of Purbeck with three university friends, one of whom is now dead; I see my first trip to Le Mans; I see dozens of epic drives from Reading to Oxford to visit a stunning girlfriend who was undergrad at Christ Church; I see equally epic blasts from Minley Ranges & Salisbury Plain back to Reading, tired and elated after exercises; I am reminded of a thousand happy but hitherto forgotten moments of my youth that flood back to me when I find a Hothouse Flowers tape in the glovebox or the remains of a long forgotten T shirt in the boot

Apart from the 968 which has the interior out, they all work, the SL's tyres are 19years old however, so I'm going to sort that soon, and give it some time.
I have some 'H' beam rods to fit in my R53 Cooper S maybe, so could use the CL for a bit, just needs the battery putting on, I don't leave them on the cars.

This kind of thing totally escapes me.. Why? Why not sell it of pass it to someone else who will give it the attention it needs and get it back on the road? Ive had a few old cars, but Ive always attended to them with a view to get them sorted and used or sold. I don't understand the pleasure (if there is any) of being surrounded by old vehicles that will only deteriorate into scrap eventually. Those cars must be feeling so utterly miserable! Why not offer them as a charity raffle prize at a car show? That would get rid of them and you'd be doing a good turn too..
