is it worth restoring classic cars with this new Petrol/Diesel ban looming? I'm a huge classic car nut!
I have a 1977 rolls royce silver shadow 1 sitting outside my house, and i've been toying with the idea of restoring it in a few years but with this new ban thingy will it be with doing??
i'm not looking at selling it i'm just thinking, will petrol still be available for the classic car hobbiest?.

I think you need to read the title of the article again.
To ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars, not the cars already in existence.
Inevitably old classics will become rarer and probably worth more as collectors items.
But this ban is in 2040. Can you be sure you will still even be alive then?

It'll be fine, petrol and diesel aren't going anywhere any time soon, and even if this 2040 ban happens, there's still going to be a lot of cars floating around needing fuel.

bottom of the wings have rotted out
rear quarters are full of filler and rust
passenger side floor pan is rotten
electrics are dodgy
indicators don't work
interiors a mess / most of its missing
it has a mystery battery drain
rear suspension accumulators need bleeding
etc etc
but i won't be beaten!!
engine sounds lovely original 77k
it had a gearbox rebuild in 2003

The idea of making a ban 23 years in advance is absurd and clearly an attempt to appear fashionably green without actually doing anything, anyway. So I'd not worry about it and crack on. If EV does catch on with the mainstream public then fuel probably will get less convenient to buy but that's easy mode compared to the poor steam train enthusiasts! They struggle to even get some track to run their engines but it doesn't put them off.

Don't be defeated and learn as much as you can. I am guessing at 16 owning a Roller means you may have had parental help in acquisition, recovery or storage. Unless your Saturday job paid for it. Either way BRAVO!bottom of the wings have rotted out

Without sounding condescending, try to learn as many of the resto skills you can to make your classic car ownership as cost effective as possible. I would have possibly chosen a different classic to cut my teeth on. Maybe a VW Bug, Mini, Triumph or MG... but that's not to say you cant get your roller in tip top condition.
Maybe get a 2nd car to run about in while you tackle the jobs on the Roller.

It sounds like there is an awful lot of work to do on the Rolls and I wish the OP all the luck in the world in what will be a real learning experience, but if the measure of 'worth' is financial then the car sounds too far gone. A whole replacement interior will cost more than the cars worth for example, add in the metal work, re-spray and the mechanicals £££££
