Rover P4

If you were the driver of the well patinated Rover P4 on the A 1 S near Wetherby yesterday morning, proceeding imperiously at 80-ish in the fast lane then all I can say is ...respect!

They go very well for an old car. I have a customer with one, he took me out and to say I was impressed/scared would about cover it.

Wow - I reckon it was.Same colour and condition. I was listening to the radio so ddin't pick up any aural difference .Tell me more ?

I'm rather fond of a P4, it was our only family car for around 10years (during the 90s) as I was growing up. They are built like tanks and had some reasonable engines - ours was the 110 with the 125hp 2.6 straight 6. With 4 gears plus overdrive it was more than enough to keep up with modern traffic and would happily do 80 on the motorway.

We still have it but it needs a bit of TLC currently. I have great memories of some early morning drives to the Goodwood revival - cruising down some nice A roads, flicking in and out of overdrive. Great fun and completely different to driving a modern car!

I only know what I've seen on Youtube. From What I can tell it has a big block Ford V8 (7.5l?) fitted, and it covers the 1/4 mile pretty rapidly!

A Rover V8 would be the obvious swap for a P4 - keep it in the family so to speak.

Unless of course you have a gas turbine on your garage shelf...
