1 owner - 1979 Land Rover 109 6 cyl Stolen Macclesfield

Our dear old Land Rover 109 LWB 6 cyl was stolen in the early hours of this morning from a village just outside of Macclesfield.

Grey with white hard top, also small trailer taken.

Reg. 909 UMB

It was my father's who died from cancer recently, the family would like it back as it has great sentimental attachment.

Very rare spec, it might be just possible to track down.

Check out the local Gyppo's - apart from it's scrap value it wouldn't be much use to anyone else

c) get it on social media as much as possible, there are at least 20+ Land Rover accounts on Instagram with loads of followers. going viral is your best chance
d) ask the likes of Chris Harris, James May etc to retweet it

Thank you for the replies, yes, it is sad as it has been a part of the family for nearly 40 years. I learnt to drive in it when I was a small boy and there really are a lot of memories. So please keep your eyes open.

I drive through Congleton coming off J17 on the M6 then head towards Macclesfield off the Buxton Road (via Bosley Crossroad direction) ... will keep an eye out on my commute. Hope it gets found ASAP.

get in on FB if you haven't done so already, big push in rural crime in Cheshire East. There was a big presence in Rushton Spencer a few weeks ago. I'm sure they will have their own FB page you can report it on. .

I actually refrain from leaving mine in many places which would be it's natural habitat, for fear of it not being there when I get back despite 3 levels of additional security./

I hope it turns up. Not to add to your despair but they are often dismantled pretty quickly. The beauty of being able to fettle them with just an old bag of spanners is also their downfall.

Thank you for the replies. I appreciate there is little chance of it being found but if you do see a very straight lwb 6 cyl petrol series 3 for sale be extra vigilant. I can see why series 1 & 2 might be targets with the high values but I am surprised it would be worthwhile pinching a series 3.

It was driven away at 4.00am with a small trailer behind it so someone might just have seen it in the Macclesfield/Congleton area.

My Land Rover is a 45 year plus family heirloom too, so I know how sad you must feel.

Blame rising values, these things are worth a bit, someone will be looking to sell it. LWB 'Series' Land Rovers are rare, especially the 2.6, so it'll stand out if some advertises it.
