Aston Martin DB5 in Coronation Street
Discussion
Found this episode of Coronation St which features the appearance (albeit only briefly) of an Aston Martin DB5 convertible. Been after the ep in question for ages but almost give up until I watched a random episode just.
The days when classic Aston's weren't selling for 6 figure sums; in a 2011 copy of C&SC magazine I have, there was an Aston (ex Paul McCartney I think) for sale at about 180 grand, now they've jumped into 400-800k region in little no time at all.

it's only the provenance that it was owned by McCartney that commands such a price.
I wonder if the buyer is satisfied by the driving experience of such vehicle considering how much they paid for it?
what?? You dont drive clsassic cars therse days, they're investments......I wonder if the buyer is satisfied by the driving experience of such vehicle considering how much they paid for it?
(although to be fair, a drophead DB of any flavour has been this way for a very long time....)

I'm pretty certain that if all the new owner was interested in, was owning a DB5, then they would have purchased one of the several other DB5's currently for sale around the World for a lot less money, rather than buying the ex-Paul McCartney car.I wonder if the buyer is satisfied by the driving experience of such vehicle considering how much they paid for it?
I would also suspect that they're not going to be of the belief that this car drives any better than every other DB5, based on how much they paid for it, and who once owned it.
In the same way, I highly doubt that people who buy ex-Steve McQueen cars have an expectancy for them to be massively superior to any other car of the same type that wasn't owned by McQueen.
These people are happy to pay extra, just to be a very small part of a famous person's legacy.
It's the same thing with a pair of boxing gloves that were once owned by Muhammad Ali - Materialistically, they're no different to any other boxing gloves of the period owned by any other boxer of the time, and unlike cars such as McCartney's DB5, they are in no way usable any more, but people will pay massively over the odds for them, just because they once belonged to someone famous.
Let's not forget that some people pay hundred's of thousands for vintage bottles of extremely rare wine, just to be able to say they own it. They have no intention of ever opening the wine, or drinking it, they just want to own it. The funny thing is, for all they (and the rest of the World) know, they could be paying a huge amount of money for a bottle of foul tasting vinegar!

The "owner" of that Aston was the late Brian Hibbard lead singer of The Flying Pickets, playing mechanic Doug Murray
