Mercedes W202 C280 Elegance

I have been offered an 11K mile 1998 C280 Elegance saloon as a PX against my SL500.
We haven't discussed price as yet as I really have no idea how to value such a car.
It's dark blue metallic with tan leather and usual Elegance extras.
Come on masses, what's it worth??
My view is £3k to sell on via ebay.

I had a yr 2000 T202 estate and kept it 13 yrs and 250,000 miles. Given the rust problems of the model I watched mine carefully and always took it to a car wash in the spring, one with the underneath jets. It was fine when i sold it and it had cost me £2,000 in repairs; two front springs and a new aircon compressor. I'm sorry I can't help you with a value but I am just trying to reassure you as to the reliability of the model.

11,000 miles in 20 years? If that's right, has it been sitting around unused for ages? Is it "time warp" condition? Rust normally kills this age of Merc. If you want to punt it on, be careful as the market has fallen out of favour with large capacity petrol engines with £250 VED and an Ollie Reed drink problem. Anyone looking for a 20 year old Merc would probably want a cheap old slipper to smoke around in - the market for those who'd then pay a premium for one with pretty much delivery miles may be tiny.

I bought a 1994 C280 Sport back in 1999 and had it 3 years or so. It was a good car, but I bought the wrong model - the Sport had better seats but the suspension was too stiff to give Mercedes ride quality and didn't seem to do anything for handling. Mind you it did have full leather, AMG alloys, sunroof and climate which were all extras back then!

Mine had the straight 6 but I can't remember when they changed to a V6. If you could get that for £3K I would be very tempted to have a deal with you!

Well, if you look at the completed listings of cars that have actually sold on ebay, the going rate seems to be between £300 and just over £1000. £3k is very strong indeed. For that sort of money you are knocking on the door of AMG V8 models!!

Is that the case as I'm thinking of dipping my toe back in the classic field and had something Italian in mind a Maserati 4200 but if that is the case I might give a wide berth.

If the market has fallen out of favour with a car you are interested in buying, then doesn't that work to your advantage?
