Mille Miglia map

I'm planning to head down to the Mille Miglia this may to follow the rally bit and see some of the amazing cars taking part.

Does anybody have a detailed route map?

The one on the official website shows the route, but it is not really very detailed and one would have to guess some of the actual roads that are being used.

Also, any hot tips on places to stop along the route and view the cars coming through would be gratefully received as well.

Also any suggestions for a good non-motorway route from Calais down to the start at Brescia would be very welcome.

Hi Marc,

We have watched this 3 times, once in Brescia ( cold, very wet, lots of waking, difficult to park) and twice in the Palio, Siena which is a control so you can see the cars up close and talk to the crews. Warm, sunny, can sit in the bars around the outside, but plan on parking outside city walls. We stayed at the Athena hotel.

I am to.d spectating on the passes at jFuta and Raticosa was superb, but they have changed the route this year. Still worth driving over if you have time.

I too would be interested in knowing if there is a detailed map as I will be in the area at the right time this year.

A couple of years ago we watched them parade through the Piazza del Campo in Siena and it was stunning. We had lunch at a restaurant close by and the cars took around three hours to parade through.

There are detailed maps etc online, I've been looking at lots of Mille Miglia stuff myself lately and have been making copious route notes. But for the life of me I can't find the links to the route details now, and I don't know why.

Well I am doing the event (1956 Oldsmobile Rocket 88) and I haven't seen any details yet but then again I will worry about that when I get there!!

This is brilliant and just what I needed so I have now booked our accommodation for the trip based on being close to the route.

Does anybody have a restaurant recommendation for the first night of the rally? Looking for somewhere not far from Sirmione so we can dine and watch the cars after they have done the sirmione Peninsula.

Be careful about basing your choice on last years' route - they sometimes make minor changes over the years. We went in 2013 but - IIRC - the route had been changed from the previous year.

IIRC (again!), the route and times are available within the entrants' regs which can be seen online closer to the actual date but is not linked from the main site; took me ages to find it.

BTW - the fastest thing you'll see going down the Raticosa pass will be a Panda driven by an Italian housewife with a screaming two-year-old in the back...
