With regard to the hatchback, when searching for the above I came across this horror show. Those of a nervous disposition best look away now...
It's surely not butchered from one of these is it....

what spoils it is ..the "ebay bodge it comments " from the vendor .......speedo ...doesn't work ,,,wider wheels make it tramline at speed ....buy hey they look the biz."!!!.....no they don't they make it dangerous ...and FIX those issues ...if you are going to make a premium , at least get the car roadworthyhttps://vimeo.com/255437321

I've seen this car at a show, and in fact know the owner from a few years back when he was in the same club as me. As I recall, the execution of it is pretty good, the interior mods looked factory, though I don't recall seeing that rear view they show in the advert, which does make it look a bit clunky I must admit.
On the other hand, that red one labelled XJX may well be the result had the car continued development - shades of a Rover 400-odd tailgate stuck on the back end.

I kind of like it but after looking through about 40 pictures you get to the ones that show the back of the rear seats looks like they have been chopped in half, mid way up, in order to fold down. That looks really weird. I guess they are too low to align with the new rear book deck, but I wonder if some kind of bracket design that lifted then up and then down flat could have worked instead.
For me, this car takes the most distinctive (and arguably most attractive) styling feature of the XJS - the flying buttresses - and gets rid of them.
In my book, that makes it worth less than a decent "regular" XJS, rather than more!

I had two, a Signal red manual on a P and a Juniper green automatic on an S.
The S (10/77 build) was supplied new by Spink Motors in Bournemouth. I had dinner with my Mrs there in 2014. It's now a Thai restaurant.
