Importing a car from Florida - Any Advice?

I'm looking at importing a 1991 car from Florida.
Any advice would be appreciated - From making payment to the seller, costs, RORO v Container, UK costs
I've had a shipping agent recommended to me, but if anyone has experience of others, that'd be good to hear.
I don't *think* I'll achieve the 5% VAT requirements on a sub-30yr old car?

I have brought a couple of cars over by container. They were managed the US side by Magnum shipping who got the cars to Jacksonville before the trip to Southampton.
Depending on the car it is worth trying to get reduced import duty as I managed it on one car which was 28 years old but it was a rare example.
If I were doing it again I would probably look at some of the agents that offer a door to door service.

I did it back in 1988 !
Maybe a bit irrelavant these days but bought back a Trans Am in Orlando, drove it to Jacksonville were it went on a "Roll on-roll off" ship and dropped at Southampton.
I think lots of cars suffer from flat batteries and the tow them off (not with the best care Id imagine). Had to hire a trailer, pick it up and bring it home.
Exchange rate was about $1.80 to the £ back then. Happy days.......
