Also tomorrow. JD Classics present...

The Quest pundit was waxing lyrical about a “3.8 litre” C-Type and how disc brakes only appeared on the later D-Type... oh dear.

The JC Classic (as long as we don't mention court cases) TV spectacular......

And quite why anyone at Quest thinks that tt Pritchard should be on this programme is beyond me...... banghead

However, nice interview with Newey with his 49, and always great to hear from Neil Trundle.

But who else would know that a 1970's F1 car that has just been shunted head-on into the barriers will need to be repaired properly? confused

wink

Not very impressive, but the three of 'em talking to each other (whoever they were) did not seem to be burdened by great knowledge of the subject. As written above, the commentator on the practice sessions was good at penetrating flashes of the blindingly obvious.

Pouring with rain, an absolutely soaking wet track, Millions of pounds worth of cars on track and they're giving it a proper go, fighting the cars and pushing to the limit - Fair play to them!

They seem to have a far more efficient method of removing stricken cars that the current lot do!

I was supposed to take part in a classic car charity run today but couldn't so have been glued to the live feed on my laptop. What a brilliant day's racing, top marks to all concerned.

Part of the difference is, for a lot of these drivers, if they damage the cars, they have to pay to fix them themselves, so when a car is alongside them, they are far less likely to defend as vigorously, as a professional F1 driver who doesn't have to pay for the repairs.

The historic racers also have to take into account the running costs, so some will not be pushing their cars to the absolute limit due to costs, whereas all of the professional drivers push to limit over every single lap.

Then you have different performance levels of each car, in each group, and a bigger disparity in driving talent.

All of this is amply demonstrated by the fact that cars that were barely competitive "back in the day", are winning races, whilst the once superior cars, such as the Ferrari's, finish off the podium.

All valid points, but I can't for the life of me work out how any of them relate to my comment!
