What is this from

Evening all - Anyone know what this is from? Found it in my dads garage after he died.

Could be from almost anything - it's an aftermarket temp gauge that goes in the top of the rad on something pre-war.

Early temperature gauge, probably used on something like an old MG or similar.

Yep, car radiator gauge - used to warn about coolant temp.

I spend about 5 minutes trying to work out what a "JAMRON" was

Calor Gas was founded in 1935, according to the patent number this is off a gas water boiler, would have been coupled with a relief valve.

Incidentally Wilmot and Breedon were a well known boiler and heating manufacturers from the Midlands, they had a factory not far from Villiers Street in Wolverhampton up until 1947. Villiers Street incidentally was a hub of motor manufacturers though this was not part of motoring history.

All this can be verified in the Black Country Museum Achives, and the Patent Office.

I don't know who Wilmot and Reedon are because it says Wilmot Breeden quite clearly.
Aren't they the people who used to make those little FB type keys that fitted Minis and various other BMC cars.

What is Calor Gas to do with it?
Their name and that of a "calormeter" are derived from the Latin for "Heat". Most appropriate, in either case, but linked only by that.

Several other Wilmot Breedon guages of the same type on sale, eBay and other auctions.
All have the same Pat.No. How did you trace that to Calor Gas?

I used to have one on an Austin 7 I had for a while. As others have pointed out they are an aftermarket accessory fitted by many.

Take a plain radiator cap and drill a whole through and fit.

Go for anywhere between £30 and £100 on ebay depending on how the wind is blowing.

Gosh, looks like Wilmot-Breedon were the Halfords of that age, purveyors of (unnecessary ?but useful) car accessories!
