One million bargains in my book. How do they come up with a price like this, even if the car is still as new? It isn't as if it will ever get driven and is just a piece of static art.

It's not even old as Beetles go, only a '64 so one of hundreds of thousands.

I though it was some spurious price put in to generate some interest but apparently it really is up for $1m.

It really is factory fresh - driven from the dealer into storage, never registered and never driven. Delivery miles 47 years on. Still, it's 25 times the price of the last time a factory fresh old beetle sold at auction.

Sellers are chancing charlatans. Who's going to spend a million bucks on this? 300SL Gullwing, Muira, Carrera GT, F40, LP400 Countach, DB5 ... I mean, there are some pretty heavyweight classics you'd have to walk past to get to the beetle.

There certainly are some chancing charlatans out there. Nothing new there. Just the same as there are mugs, a fool and his money are soon parted has always rung true! This is obviously who they are hoping to find. Highly unlikely or more like impossible in this case, however.

It will be interesting to see what its worth. Obviously it is very rare to have a car in that condition with that provenance. And its a type of car with a following, so likely to be worth more than, say, a similar 1964 Triumph Herald. Plus Beetles have a place in History with the Hitler / Porsche connection and then all the surf / counter culture 60s stuff, and even Herbie.

There are lots of people who collect VWs and quite a few people who have collections of cars which are historically significant. A few of them must be very wealthy. So if two of them want the ultimate original Beetle then maybe...

(But I would buy something much better, quite possibly from the list above.)

True, there were alot made, but certainly isn't alot of good ones still around and getting harder to find - still not worth a million ££ like!

There was one that Wayne sold on chasing classics recently that was much older than this 1948 I believe and it didn’t make anywhere near half that price.
According to the internet the record for a beetle at auction was herbie at $126,000

I no of somebody who paid £7 grand for a 17 year old clapped out builders van with 350 thousand on the clock complete with shagged interior and flaking flat paint and rust to make a camper

£15k tops I would say, but it's only worth what people will pay, I have a '66 by no means immaculate but an honest example, with some body work imperfections it wears as badges of honour - I think easy £5k I could get for it, I wouldn't know though hard to value tbh - but will never sell it.
