These appear to be pretty rare !
I've seen 4 in the last year on ebay go for between £6K5 -> £9K - so definitely a sellers market
none on other auction sites (my data says 2002 but this could be wrong!)
none on carandclassic.co.uk at the moment
I would just keep an eye out on ebay or maybe try an owners club type website

My first ever new car car in 1984. Excellent car 140K miles in 8 years. Very little went wrong. Had a Blydenstein head put on it. Let it go for £800 after rust got into the sills despite copious waxoyl Better than most hot hatches at the time and certainly better than the mk2 Golf GTI I thought about p-exing it for. Only let down by slow heavy steering if I recall correctly.

I had three, back in the day: first in red, hammered it up & down the M3 & M6, didn't miss a beat, which considering it's previous hard life was surprising. Sadly stolen & w/o; knowing a bit more, the replacement was in silver with some neat Blydenstein upgrades & suspension bits, brilliant car, loved it, but never the same after a rear end knock; third was a black Opel 5 door, toured Europe in that one, back doors came in very handy.
They handled well, the Recaro seats were so comfortable, all were reliable, quick, & easy to fix - only the tin worms were a nuisance, really. When they were new, they were rare, as much due to their place in the Astra lifecycle as any inherent problems, sold only in 83 & 84 before they were superseded by the Mk2. That was a different beast, which I didn't gel with, so moved away from GM.
Better than a Golf, 205 or an XR3i? No, but not worse either, just different; they each had their own qualities.

I do remember in Car SOS or WD they got a 3D printer to do the wheel centres on the Astra GTE [

I went to buy a mk1 gte at 18 but couldn't insure it.
That one in the pic was a 180 went like the clappers. If I remember right that trip to the cottage in France 1991 the Cam Belt went but it was the German engine so it did not total the engine. We got rescued and fixed by this little French garage in 4hrs cost £60. I did 160k in that car and loved every minute.
Slightly off topic but linked to a degree (same engine and era), the best car I ever had was a booted Cavalier SRi A plate. It was an ex reps company car at my dads place, 3 years old with 150k on the clock when I bought it, was built like a tank and went like concorde, real rocket ship. Those Recaro seats were superb.
My dad still talks about the trip back from Silverstone after the British GP in 87, 4 up we flew home in a record time, never to be broken in subsequent visits!
