The unloved ford RS 2000
Discussion
I had one. Loved it. Wasnt going to get any prizes for acceleration but mid range it was pretty good. But when i bought it from the garage i had issues with 3rd gear which had to keep going back to them to sort it. Ended up taking it somewhere else but was a pain in the arse. Sold it to a mate after 2 years whose missus wrote it off in Colchester on a roundabout 2 weeks later!

Because Ford make a massive mistake calling it RS2000.Should have created a unique name not used one associated with the previous era rwd Escorts, and such an iconic one at that.
I've had a mk6 and absolutely loved it. Not the quickest car I've owned but very capable on a twisty B road.
I bought mine, a Pacifica Blue facelift model, from my mum (she was the second owner after it being a dealer-demonstrator) and ran it almost daily including many cross-Europe runs for many years.
Pros:
The gorgeous Recaro seats - I never got uncomfortable
The torquey, and unique to this model, engine
Non "look at me" looks which means I could leave it just about anywhere
Cheap to run as far as service and mechanical spares were concerned
Cons:
Rust
Various little mechanical niggles - failed speedo drive, failed radio/cassette, floppy engine mount
Relatively low gearing, even in 5th
Cheap-feeling interior (apart from those seats)
Eventual demise due to coil pack wiring issue which causes a "short" and cutting two cylinders (generally under load) which is apparently a fairly well-known issue, and the impending tin-worm rendered it unlikely to ever pass another MOT. A shame, because I liked it.

Engines were rough on the Mk5/6 RS2000's iirc

The Harrier was a 1600 Sport but with some fancy graphics and other items as a run-model for the Mk2 at the end of production.
Daft name but otherwise it was a car that had been in production for the life for the Mk2 anyway.

Don't see the relevance.

Think he was probably talking about the Mk6 model, they did a Mexico too. Think they were basically just standard 1.6 Escorts with a few decals here and there! The Harrier was a 1600 Sport but with some fancy graphics and other items as a run-model for the Mk2 at the end of production.

There was also an Si model for a while that replaced the XR3i, also anyone remember the GTi? First time I saw one was queing for the Blackwall tunnel and my mate spotted it- we genuinely thought someone had bought an Escort Si and changed the badges to GTi! Car actually looked quite nice but I never thought it suited a Gti badge..

Remember the new RS2 advert??
I had one in Red like the one in the photo for 3 years and I was a big fan in fairness. As mentioned I loved the seats and mine had a full Magnex exhaust/filter on it so I also really enjoyed the noise it made. I liked the understated nature of it and I have fond memories of it.
I looked at buying another one a few years ago and it drove exactly how I remember and the seats felt great too, it was a bit grotty in places/had a few issues so I didn't go for it in the end. I used to love the bonnet bulges on them and the later model didn't look as good to my eyes.

Agree with that ,the MK5 was the best looking.MK5a ,the "smiley bonnet" was ugly but probably a better car with updates over the 5 and the MK6 was barely distinguishable
from the Si or the GTi and a bit bland.
