Why Did I Sell?

New thread required picking up on the idea started in the Classics in Action thread.
Mine was my DB4 Vantage, purchased for £6k, sold for £10k, thought I did well!
I suppose it depends when you bought and sold it. If you bought it in, say, 1980 and sold it last week, not well. Mine was my DB4 Vantage, purchased for £6k, sold for £10k, thought I did well!

But if you bought it in 1980 and sold it in '81, you did!

It’s about how big your balls are to hang on, and how much room you have to store them
How very true, cash and place to stash.MG Midget sold '75 for £190
Another two sold for very little (one with an excellent body became an Arkley SS
Lancia Fulvia sold in the 1880's for £250
BMW E30 M3 Cecotto sold in 2001 for £8000
Lotus Elan S4 sold 1989 for £6000
Lotus 7 S2 sold 1987 for £5500
Mk 2 Cortina sold for a couple of hundred in the 1980's
BMW 2002tii sold 1994 for £800
are just a few and I could do a list of cars I didn't buy that I should have Integrale (x2 one at £5k and one at £7k) Sunbeam Tiger (£250 in 1973) Piper GTT for a few hundred, Mk 1 Mexico as a replacement for a MGB, are just a few. Instead of going to the pub and club level motorsport I should have bought a massive barn.....

^This in my case, when I lost the lock up I was storing my Escort Twin Cam in and was forced to sell it back in 1987/8 ish, and back then in my area, there were just no others available. Most in the block mine was in were in a bad state of repair, as most not used and thus the site freeholder sold off the land for housing.Even 30 years ago I knew it would be something I knew I would regret in decades to come, and I got a good deal on the sale at the time of 1000 quid for the car less engine and box, as the engine I had to go in it was an all steel rally spec engine with a genuine Bullet gearbox, but new owner wanted to it to build a concours stock show car and wanted to source a correct as stock engine and box instead.
Ended up selling the engine and box for 750 quid, which again was a good price 30 years ago, as it really needed a refresh as well.
I'm half glad that I don't still have it as while it would be worth well north of 50-60k now, the theft issue living where I do now with such a car would make me far too paranoid about owning a Twink or any sort after Fast Ford. Chances are I would have long since parted with it anyway just due to various circumstances in life along the way.
Starting at the beginning, paid £10 for my first bike, a Sun 98cc and sold it for the same. Moving on, sold my DBD34 Goldie for £40. Had an Alexander Stage 2 1293 Cooper S and sold it for about £300 I seem to remember. The Midget was sold for £200, the 380 SL for £16,000, My lovely MK VIII for £6,000, the S-type 1965 for £6,000, the first E-type (bought for £300) written off and I got £275 back (an outside lock one too). I had a succession of Beemers in the 80s that lost big money (especially the M6) but then I got sensible and have only owned three cars in 25 years which of course lost money over starship mileages but which overall were my best value cars. Except of course the E-type (£3,000 in 1982) and I still have it, and the XKSS which has cost, including mods, £100,000 since 2002. so overall I guess my balance can't be far from being in profit given the value of the last two, even after the market being down now. I have more or less made the decision that the XKSS will go to auction next year though.

Sod the money side of things
I often think why did I sell,
Same here. If it was still around I would buy my Scimitar SE5 back in a heartbeat.I often think why did I sell,
Unfortunately I now believe that it's id was swapped onto a SE5A to make that appear to be tax exempt under the old rules & it no longer exists.
I bought this tr6 with a mate for £2.900 in 2010, it had been in a blokes garden for about 6mths and had no mot.

This is how we bought it but the n/s wing had a large scratch about 9in long which my mate repaired, it went straight through the mot test with advisories for welding to the ends of the chassis,
We couldn't get it to run properly so after 6mths I put it on Ebay, it was a Sunday around midnight price £5.250 b.i.n
After checking the ad I got it on screen again about 5mins later to find it had sold, unbelievable , I spoke to the feller and he came down from rugby to collect it the next day,ha.
Why, why, why, did I do that?
