Modified classic car insurance

My Mexico build is now close to completion (thread on readers cars section - search Mexico build to my spec). Can anyone give me any companies that will insure it as a modified classic - spec is historic rally car - pinto approx. 150 hp on 45s cage etc. but with carpets and rear seats so only a show car really. I have rang one of the usual companies who quoted me quite a reasonable £197 for 3k miles and agreed value but still waiting for them to email me the full details before I commit. It maybe an error with the email address but I have rang them twice and emailed them once and still no details so now thinking of taking my business else where.

I insure my road race Triumph VItesse with Adrian Flux. They do a limited mileage policy for a reasonable price. No cover for competition, of course.

Those who offer a telephone quote are sometimes making it up as they go. I asked a competitor, and offered a list of mods; 2.5L engine 130bhp (+40%)? Fine, Sir. Four-pot brakes and vented discs? Also fine, Sir! GRP bonnet, fabricated rear suspension, Fuel injection, extractor exhaust, single (driver's) seat, stripped out interior? Just fine, Sir! No rear seat. Oh, no Sir, we could never insure a car with no rear seat!

I used a broker called A Plan in Thatcham. Spoke to actual people ! They've insured my 1960 Sunbeam Alpine with a tuned 5 litre V8 for a reasonable £147. When asked about modifications, is was easier to list what wasn't modded 😀.
Mind you, they couldn't get close for my daily driver.

Specialise in one off vehicles. Make sure to call the Thatcham branch though.

My Mk2 RS2, which is extensively modified is insured with Adrian Flux. No problems with any of the mods.

Maybe a bit late for you but I've insured my bored out, supercharged, intercooled, bonnet vented, aero kitted, harness and roll bar fitted Griff 500 for £297 with Footman James. Agreed value, 3000 miles and no regular experience with a similarly powered car. The next cheapest was almost £700 and several of the usual recommendations didn't want to know.

Ive got a really good quote off A-plan and turns out they are partners with BMW Car Club GB which worked out very well by pure coincidence!

A third vote for A-Plan Thatcham. They have insured all my cars for over 11 years, not classics but generally modified or not normal circumstances. Great to deal with when my MX5 was written off.

Recently insured my 17yr old son through the Oxford branch and they were no where near as good.
