Simple number plate question

Guys, a little advice needed.

My TR6 project is (after 24 years off and on) rattling towards completion. It has been completed before, about fifteen years ago, but the year before last I took it off the road for a weekend's work and you know how it goes...

Anyway, right back at the beginning in about '96 I bought some proper number plates with the moulded letters. Not the silver on black ones, but the white front/yellow back sort. Somehow along the way I had some more modern acrylic ones made and those are what's stuck on the car now.

I've decided I want to fit the moulded plates. How would these have been properly attached? On older cars I owned with these sort of plates I just remember rusty screws, loose in equally rusty holes in the bodywork. Happy to use screws but is there a truly professional way of fitting the plates?

Nylon, I think, come in either white or yellow to match the plate backing.

Or, of course double sided sticky tape, "trim tape".

I think nylon screws came in with reflective plates - white, yellow or black heads so they didn't mess with the letters - conveniently changed by people who did want them to mess with the letters

Yes, the coloured, nylon nuts and bolts appeared at the same time reflective plates were introduced.

These period plates really complete the look. Often an item that is overlooked.
