I have just bought myself a Rover p5 coupe from the Isle of man, it has been shot blasted and on the face of it does not look bad for a fifty year old car, however having never done this type of full restoration before i am looking for advice on where i should start. What attracted me to the car in the first place apart from it being a Rover p5b, was it has been completely dismantled something which i would have done anyway, like i said i just need a guide as to where to start where to get the jobs i cannot do done and who best to do them. All help will be gratefully accepted.
To have something that few others have is never going to be easy, i don't expect easy, i have always loved this Motor Car it is something special... today i am going over to my unit to make a plan of action which in reality will be the most of what people do with these cars as the real work and real skills are put to work by those who have them. To get the car to the standard i envisage will only take money, anyone can finance a project, the real achievement here will be the skills of the people paid to do the work.
I dont know why but at times this site won't let me reply can i take this opportunity to thank you all for your comments and support. Probably like yourselves i have grown tired of the over priced plastic nonsense they call vehicles these days and especially the way you are deliberately locked out of them as far as any mechanical work is concerned sometimes paying Hundreds of pounds for little more than scrabble tiles (vital circuit boards) costing pennies to manufacture.I Love stuff with quality time and care built into it, honest vehicles, the reasoning behind joining this site and announcing my intentions regarding the Rover P5b was really to throw myself in at the deep end and being open to scrutiny which is exactly what i need as i can let things and original intentions slide. The only real part i will play here is to finance the project and source the skills to do the work. All of your input is valued again i thank you. Love the photo that is a big motivation, today I'm off to empty the car and see where we are as regards what body panels will be needed, the guy whom i bought the car from filled it with parts as much as he could to save costs as it was imported from the isle of man.
Good luck, you're a brave man.
The Rover P5 range is a car I've always admired, but I wouldn't dream of restoring one, let alone one that someone else had dismantled.
On the positive side, even if something is missing it will be readily available.
Look forward to your updates and, once again, good luck with the project.
