If it was after 3pm (1pm on Wednesdays) or a Saturday then the bank would be shut. No ATMs either so unless Rumbelows would take a cheque ( with a guarantee card, as long as it was less than £50 ) then you were going home empty handed!

It's a real period piece, that one. My thoughts were; "oooh, Rumbelows! Does the Midland still exist?" and then "only one car visible on 50 yards of road."

I always lusted after one of those. Had a brochure as a young'un and it showed a metallic blue one with white or cream leather interior. Haven't seen one for decades, not even sure if there are any still out there!
