LOL. Looks like it will need someone with plenty of intensive purpose to get it going again.

School friend's Mum had an L reg Mk 1, a 1600GT. Racy car in its day. He had 2 sisters so they would go in the back while the two of us shared the front passenger seat with the belt stretched round both of us;).

It was short geared I remember. Screaming away at well over 4000rpm on the motorway.

1300 must have been a bit of a gutless wonder even then.

And that one has a tow bar as well!

Hadn't spotted that. Should have put it on the front so it could get a tow, rather than give one.

"if it doesn’t make what I want I simply won’t part with it."

Should perhaps have put a reserve on it then!

More rotten crap with a nostalgia price tag. I don't understand the nostalgia thing because I'm nearly 60 and know these cars were pretty useless, even in their prime.

My mate bought himself a Mk 1 Capri 1300 in matt brown. Hopeless car. I bought a Viva 1800 HC for rather less.

So, to recap, 70s cars, rusty, hopeless, junk

Im old enough to have been around when these cars were current models and I certainly cant recall there ever being a 1300GT, the 1300s were a gutless piece of crap. In my opinion anything other than the 3Litres were pretty mediocre cars all round. The earlier 2 Litre cars were fitted with the V4 engine another piece of useless crap which thankfully faded into oblivion and was replaced by the 2 Litre pinto a gem of an engine.

Your mate bought a MK1 1300 Capri and it was a hopeless car? - Really? confused

Who would have thought that the pick of the bunch, power-house 1300 Capri would turn out to be hopeless? - I'm shocked! rolleyes

There are plenty of classic cars from every decade that weren't great cars in their time, and "pretty useless", so should no one ever buy them? - Should they all simply be scrapped off?

What about an original 1950's American pickup truck? - They were pretty poor when it came to performance, handling, and comfort, especially the pick of the bunch, power-house straight six versions, and they do like to rust. Should they all be scrapped off for being hopeless, rather than have people spend tens of thousands of pounds on them?

How about Austin 7's? They were just mediocre family cars in their day, that didn't really handle that well, had mediocre performance at best for their day, and were nothing really special. Should they all be scrapped off?, after all, owning one is this day and age can only be a nostalgia thing!

The great thing about the whole classic car scene is, different people like different things, and cars don't have to have been great, outstanding cars back in their day, to be worthy of owning, and keeping on the road.

As for 70's cars rusting: That's a big part of why 70's cars are worth so much today - Rarity!

Very few survived, and so today, they are hard to come by.

The good thing is, with what's known about the rust traps in 70's cars, and with the ever evolving anti-rust treatments available now, it's perfectly feasible to restore the cars to a condition that far exceeds the original 1970's quality, and for the cars to have anti-rust precautions that original owners could only ever have dreamed of.

You can't see why anyone would spend thousands on an old MK1 Capri - Plenty of people can't understand why anyone would spend £30 Million + on an old Ferrari race car, that today, would be embarrassed by a £30K hot hatch on a track wink

Pretty sure a mate of mine at the time had a 1300GT in a sort of metallic rose/pink. He moved onto a TR6 which regularly knocked out the bottom end and thrust washers
Another chum had a 1600GT, a 3000E (or GXL)(the one with the twin headlights), a couple of Mk2 2000 cars then a 2.8i (He liked Capris....)

Sorry but I really don't miss them. If you're going to save something, save something worthwhile.

He must've been piling on the miles to have that happen regularly.

Yep, I can remember the used car dealer I did a Saturday job washing cars for in 78/79 having a Fern Green 1300GT Capri on his lot. Was £400 quid, and I can remember saying to him, that I wish I was 17 as I would have bought it off him (was 6-9 months away from turning 17 at the time)
They were rare even back then.
A month or so after he sold it, he got an early Escort 1300GT in stock, and that was it, my Capri lust turned to Escort lust biggrin
I think the colour of that metallic rose pink colour was called Light Orchard?
Very rare, even back then, so a 1300GT in that colour would have been very rare.

The Capri was, at age 6, the car I promised myself, the first car I loved. I had the Dinky Capri, then the Corgi 'Roger Clark' Capri (still got both somewhere, must dig them out) but I didn't get to drive one until I went off to what is now called "Youie" but in those days was called Bristol Polytechnic. What a pile of shyte that car was, and thankfully not mine. A rolling wreck of malfunctioning everything. Eventually an entire rear wing fell off and the thing was put out of its misery.

BUT I'll give it this – the girls loved it wink

Back in the 80's a newsagent friend of my old man used to pay me to pick up his son from football on Saturday morning in his 1969 gold Capri 1300GT. Saturday morning was significantly improved when he traded it in for a mk2 Granada 2.8....
