How's the market for selling?

I've been advertising what I would consider to be a very well priced classic Alfa for a while now.

Loads of interest, and the usual time wasters and text chancers..."would you take £**** mate?", but not a single viewing (though I now have one later this week).

Is the market dead at the moment?

What sort of Alfa and how much are you asking may help.

You have to realistic with your asking price, do that and it will sell.

My Range Rover Classic was sold the day after I had listed it to the person who enquired about it 4 hours after the advert went live. It was a desirable car with the right mileage, colour, fresh paint etc. but price was the biggest factor IMO.

This was back in February.

Not wanting to tell you how to sell a car,

If your getting interest but no views or offers it the price that’s the issue

If there’s lack of demand for the product then price is the issue.

99 times out of a 100 price is the factor

Review you ad and check that the photos are great.

If your asking top value then you will have to wait for the correct buyer.

Everything will sell no matter how bad the market, it’s all down to preceveed value.

Sadly I think it is a little flat - just sold my 1966 S Type and did not get anywhere near what I thought I might but I needed the space so was somewhat tied.

The heavy-hitters (E-Types, Healeys etc) have dropped somewhat but nice sub-25k cars are up.

The gap between projects and really nice cars is widening, too, it would seem.

I've sold a couple over the last few weeks, but both up for a very long time.

One went for about £1500 less than hoped for, the other for full asking price.

Both cars were mint, and I think it was just a question of waiting for the right person to come along.

I was prepared to wait and wasn't in a hurry to let them go.

I'm perhaps too impatient as it's not been advertised for long, and it's only on one obscure free site, but has generated a lot of interest. It's the chancers and timewasters who are pissing me off a bit!

Some of the asking prices for vintage and post vintage cars is eye watering, even plain ridiculously OTT. Result the ad’s sit there for ever with cars remaining unsold. Can only assume the seller is not concerned to find a buyer but hopes an idiot may turn up with more cash than brains.

There are lots of pretty undesirable cars for sale at silly prices. I know, I know... beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that - but seriously, no Vauxhall Belmont is worth £7k.

The vendor can afford to sit on it for years, though, because he probably paid 50p for it.

current market for used (non classic) is totally dead unless priced stupidly low compared to other similar examples. Classics equally slow.

I think some of the over priced cars are advertised to stop the nagging at home.

The other half asks "is your bloody car for sale yet?"
