Online MOT check on an MOT Exempt car . . .

If you carry out an online MOT check on a car registered as 'Historic' and therefore MOT exempt what response does it return:

No MOT?
Exempt?
Something else?

I should mention that prior to being registered and taxed as 'Historic' the car has been off the road for nearly 20 years and therefore has no online MOT history . . .

For one of mine it returns "No Results Returned" ....

Interestingly my 1968 Cortina shows "MOT EXPIRED" and the last MOT date.

But having just taxed it for £0 without the need for an MOT online it is clear the DVLA aren't expecting it to be taxed.

From a recent thing from the FBHVC:

"At the moment the vehicle enquiry service simply says, in relation to the MOT, "no results returned". We are intending to present to DVLA shortly our view that there is still potential for them to improve the wording of the VES so that the possibility of the vehicle being MOT exempt is at least identified."

and

"Firstly, if your MOT has expired you get a red warning that you might incur a fine of up to £1000. If you have an exempt vehicle, do not panic! The warning leads you to what if refers to as 'MOT exemption guidance'."

Basically the on-line enquiries just don't cope well with the concept of MOT exemption, and FBHVC are trying to lobby the DVLA to improve the situation.
