The only problem with that car is you can’t use it. As soon as you put the miles on it it’s value will drop like a stone. There again if you are dirty rich it don’t matter.

The problem with the SL Shop one is that it's the unloved neither here nor there 420SL - the performance of the 6 cyl 300 but with the thirst of the 500 V8. Both of these are undrivably valuable.

They have a '89 560 SEC with 63k miles - fantastic car and I'm sure it's a good one, but at £45,995 it's at least £20,000 overpriced. Not that long ago (4-5 years!) you could have comfortably bought that for £15,000.

Is the red seat piping original? I don't recall Mercedes of the era offering contrasting piping.

People who've hankered after a particular car with a nice bit of money behind them but are not petrolheads tend to be drawn to these type of dealers and to be fair it's understandable, a shining example, problem free and come back if a problem arises with this renowned one make specialist.
Seems the gap between buying private or from a dealer has never been greater.

This is the same if you go out and drop 110k on a new AM Vantage or something though, in fairness.

Slightly O/T, but at the beginning of the 80s I had a client who bought his wife a new 380SL for Xmas. She took one look at it and told him to take it back since her Chevette was all she needed. Then the war started. He said it was registered in her name so she had to sell it, and she said it was his problem. So the car was put up on blocks and started every month bt the handyman/gardener. 15 years later he died and the car was sold - with 278 miles on the clock and ready for its first - free - service.
