Finding any history on a 1979 South African import?

Hello there, thanks for looking my my query.

I have a 1979 450SLC which was imported from South Africa in 2002. It came with little or no history and certainly nothing from South Africa other than 3 South African road tax badges from around 1999/2000. These have the registration number the car held in its native country, the VIN and engine numbers etc.

I wondered if there was any way to find out any history of the car from these documents? I have run a South African VIN search which hasn't come up with anything so I may have already done all I can, but thought it worth asking.
