Hi
Really Really hope that someone knows of someone that can rebuild my mag and is definitely still doing it!
Have searched hi and low and yes whilst there are places that will do it I wondered if anyone knew of a one man band operation. Better still if they have experience of getting there’s done by the one man band.

Cheers

Most hardcore drag engines use a magneto for the ignition...

What car is it for?

Most of the people I used to recommend have retired but I gather one of them was taken over by Ribblesdale

I think Tony Stairs is always trying to retire, and I think Alan Fairbrother has ceased trading, company name now in Ireland.
My Alvis has a BTH CE4 bought from Donald Day.

The guy at Bicester Heritage might be worth a call, not used, as currently Stairs/Fairbrother/Day ones are still sparking!

Do you live near a small airfield? Where there are light aircraft? Many older aircraft such as Tomahawks and Cherokees have magnetos. Most aircraft engineers who work on them will be happy to chat to you about how to go about fixing it.

Or get a copy of Old Bike Mart and look in the ads in the back, as all old Brit motorcycles up to the early 60's used mags.

Back in the 90's when I owned a 1940 BSA M20, there was an old bloke near me in a shed that used to do mag rebuilds, he was ace, but like so many of his ilk, long gone now.

The vintage plant magazines always have a couple of workshops that advertise. I’m sure the vintage tractor mags do the same.

Cheers folks
I have managed to find a handful of people that will do it. Most with huge waiting lists.
Very frustrating

Got Tony stairs on the case.
Spoke to him yesterday after reading the post. He is 73 and the poor old boy suffered a stroke a while back but likes to keep busy and so said he would take a look

Scroll down to
Vintage Magnetos.
Give him a call.
Saw his place when at a meet at the centre.
