That would have been an adventure back then!
Would have been at least an overnight stop, and more likely two each way with no motorways!
I can remember as a child in the mid 60's going up to Falkirk from London in a Moggy Traveller to visit Mum's sister, and that involved an overnight stop in North Yorks and that was with the bottom part of the M1 in existance!
My Mum&Dad went on their honeymoon to Bognor Regis from London in 1953, two up on a Velocette MAC 350 motorbike (with luggage) and that was an adventure!

No, but he was an electrical engineer specialising in hydro electric schemes in N Scotland.
I think he’d be amused now to be thought of as green!

Some years later myself and sister, when we were about 5 and 7, would sleep in the back of their late 50s Ford Consul when we drove from Surrey to Aberdeen. Always stopped at Perth railway station for a meat pie, forever known in the family as a Perth Pie!

He must have liked long distance drives!

All long journeys by car was an adventure in those days. I can remember back in the 50`s traveling from Reading to Whitley Bay Northumberland in my parents Ford E93A side valve,it was like going to the moon. My sister and I were dragged out of bed before dawn, no M1, no by passes, the only stop was for food, must have taken 12 -14 hours.
And my Mum did all the driving because my Dad was blinded in WW2. Then on the way home the car broke down in Rugby. An AA man on a motor bike and sidecar came and fixed it in no time.

When did Vauxhall become part of Chevrolet ?




This 1950 Chevrolet pick up and the Wyvern have almost identical front end designs.

Looking at the bottom of this page, pictures show both Wyvern & Velox both have over-riders

But that shows the later EIP version made from 51-57 which isn't the one in the OP photo. The OP photo shows the earlier LIP version made between 1948-51.

My late father was on the production line at Vauxhall when these were current before leaving to work at the Luton Vauxhall dealer shaw and kilburn. There surely cant be many late 40s early 50s Vauxhall's left.
