Name this mystery car?

I posted some old pics from a Castle Combe supercar event in April 1988 a few weeks ago, and a PHer spotted this car in the background. What is it?

The front wing looks very like a Fiat Dino, but the rear end doesn’t, and the wheels and wing mirror don’t look right either. I’ve checked and don’t have any better pics from the event. Love to know what it is, it’s been bugging me since!

He's right though. The back end looks plenty like a Fiat Dino to me, too - at least as far as you can tell from such a crappy picture. It even has the chrome strip in the right place along the top of the sill.

I can't tell much about the wheels from that pic, beyond the fact that they're probably round, but both wheels and wing mirrors could easily be non-original on a car of that age.

I'm going with Fiat Dino, whether you like it or not.

Fiat Dino Spyder. Gut feeling as soon as I looked. Easily confirmed with Google images.

How about Opel GT Convertible? Need to see the front end.

Thanks all. Fiat Dino Spyder was my first reaction too (love that car, the clue is in my name...). However, I was curious if there was anything else that could remotely fit the bill given the anomalies mentioned. Opel GT has some similarities to the wing but not the rest I don’t think.

Appreciate the photo isn’t good: here’s the original, taken on 35mmm film, and it’s in the background, so hence poor clarity.


Now compare with the Fiat Dino...


See what I mean? Windscreen is a bit too square, back end is a bit too long. Maybe I’m going mad...

I must admit, I can't see how that can be anything other than a Fiat Dino. it looks to be exactly the same as the example you posted.

Yep, you're going mad.

Apparent screen curvature is affected bythe angle of the photograph. Take the photo from a low angle (as in the example you've given above) and it exaggerates the curvature. Take it from a higher angle (as in the original shot) and it's much squarer:



The back end similarly looks absolutely fine for a Dino, to me.
